Guide to the UK
Telford is a new town in Shropshire, enjoying the full range of leisure and retail facilities – multiplex cinema, ice rink, indoor ski-slope and hundreds of shops; sports facilities, galleries and museums. The area is also famous for its links with the genesis of the Industrial Revolution. Close to Telford is Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1708, the bridge and surrounding early industrial works pay testament to the ingenuity of man in the technological and architectural spheres. Most of the furnaces and forges that dotted the gorge have disappeared, leaving a remarkable vista and peaceful surroundings.
