Guide to the UK
An industrial town nestling amidst the stark beauty of the Pennine hill, Burnley stands as a classic example of a Northern Victorian mill town, particularly so in the Weavers triangle, an area in the centre of town based around the Leeds-Liverpool canal and once hub of a thriving textile industry. Traditional industry is now profitably practised at Rowrke’s Forge, an award-winning ironworks with attached visitors centre. Burnley also contains the famous Moorhouses Brewery, the Queen Street Textile Museum and a Renaissance-style town hall. Furthermore the area boasts two magnificent and accessible stately homes in Towneley Hall and Gawthorpe Hall, the former of which hosts a museum and art gallery.
