Kendal

Kendal proclaims itself with some justification as Gateway to the Lake District. It holds the distinction of producing the world-famous Kendal Mint Cake, and has much to offer as an up and coming modern town. It has a vibrant shopping centre, a twice-weekly outdoor market and numerous stylish cafés and bars in which to enjoy a rest. The river Kent from which the town takes its name provides a tranquil place to stroll and is good for fishing. From either side of the valley, Serpentine Woods and the ruined mediaeval castle enjoy commanding panoramic views of the town and surrounding greenery.
