Stranraer

Stranraer is a port on the south west coast of Scotland. Its proximity to Ireland has been exploited across many centuries and ferries now annually take thousands across the Irish Sea. Other than the port, Stranraer is home to the pretty Castle of St. John, tranquil Garden of Friendship and the evocative sea front. Stranraer also makes a good base from which to explore the great walking country of Dumfries and Galloway. The Southern Upland Way passes by the town. This is a 212 mile walk stretching from Scotland’s west to east coast, passing through some stunning countryside.
