Guide to the UK
Chelmsford can justifiably be regarded as ‘the birthplace of radio’ as Guglielmo Marconi established the first the first factory to manufacture that device in the town in 1898, and Britain’s first wireless broadcast was made from the Marconi factory in June, 1920. Chelmsford is also the administrative centre for the county of Essex, and lies some thirty miles north-east of London. The town boasts two civic theatres, tranquil environs alongside the rivers Chelmer and Cam, and boasts an award winning town centre with specialist shopping enclaves.
