Guide to the UK
Site of the world’s first purpose built international airport, the London borough of Croydon also provided a residence for Archbishops of Canterbury over five centuries, at Croydon Palace. Tours of the Palace take in the fifteenth century Great Hall, and a bedroom which once accommodated Queen Elizabeth I. The principal focus for public life in Croydon is the Clocktower, a complex which encompasses a cinema, library, museum, tourist information centre and art space.
