Dover

As mainland Britain’s closest point to the European continent, Dover has a rich history of fortification and rich present as Europe’s busiest passenger port. Lauded for the ‘white’ Langdon Cliffs, the town is home to an extensive and ancient Castle, besieged in the thirteenth century and tunnelled beneath during World War Two. Also worth a visit is the Maison Dieu, a thirteenth century construction that now forms part of the Town Hall.
