Guide to the UK
An hour’s drive from London and situated in leafy Surrey, Farnham is a fine example a market town with a sense of history. Features include the lovely late-Norman church of Saint Andrew; and a twelfth century castle, in which is kept the town’s original Charter, granted in 1249. Part of the castle is now occupied by an international briefing and conference centre. Central Farnham’s well-kept Georgian lanes and yards provide a pleasant and safe environment in which to shop or idle, and often surprise. The Lion and the Lamb Yard features an illustrative and sturdy statue, which serves as a focal point for the community.
